Obituary for Ronald G. Roberts

January 12, 2017
Milfordma, Massachusetts

MILFORD – Ronald G. Roberts, 69, died Thursday, Jan. 12th at UMASS Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, after suddenly falling ill in Millbury, where he grew up.

He leaves his wife, Linda J. (Modig) Roberts, and a son, Jason M. Roberts, of Milford, MA; a son, Jonathan M. Roberts, and his wife, Amy M. (Sutherland) Roberts, of New York, NY; a sister, Maureen A. Roberts, her husband, Philip H. Walsh of Sutton, and their children, Kate Walsh Giles and Patrick H. R. Walsh. He was born in Worcester and is predeceased by his parents, Maurice A. and Marjorie L. (Banks) Roberts.

Ronnie was a former altar boy and Eagle Scout, and enjoyed many summers on Lake Singletary with his friends from Sutton. He earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and a M.S. in Engineering & Information Management from Northeastern University. He began his over 45-year career at Western Electric in North Andover, MA, rose through the ranks at AT&T Microelectronics, and served as Vice President of IT and CIO for several organizations, including Agere Systems, Symbol Technologies, and Motorola Solutions. He retired in December 2015 after serving as Vice President of IT for Zebra Technologies, and spent the past year as an independent leadership & IT consultant and was recently named to the Board of Directors of ProV International. Though he was highly accomplished in the field of IT management, he was far more proud of the 'great boss' awards he earned and the numerous successful professionals he mentored over the years. He was looking forward to his second season of hard-earned rounds of golf at Pleasant Valley Country Club.

Everyone whose life Ron touched will miss him tremendously, but no doubt will hold on to fond memories of a meal, a conversation, a joke - and most of all, his joyous and giving spirit.

Burial will be private at the convenience of the family, but a celebration of Ron's life will be held in the near future.
